Eco Spindles (Pvt) Ltd and Gunadamin Elephant House marked the period following Poson Poya Day with meaningful environmental action, bringing together employees, volunteers and community partners to protect the sacred Ruwanwelisaya premises while demonstrating how discarded plastic can be transformed into valuable resources.
Conducted in Anuradhapura on 30 June 2026, the day following Poson Poya Day, the corporate social responsibility initiative brought together 60 volunteers, including 20 employees from Eco Spindles and Elephant House, alongside representatives from the Thilaka Eco Centre and local communities. The project focused on responsible waste collection, segregation and recycling while raising awareness among pilgrims and visitors about the importance of safeguarding Sri Lanka’s cultural and religious heritage sites.
Approximately 350 kilograms of discarded plastic bottles were collected during the cleanup. The recovered bottles will be processed by Eco Spindles and transformed into monofilaments and yarn, reinforcing the company’s commitment to advancing a circular economy by converting plastic waste into useful materials.
